Solander box

A Solander box is a book-form case used for storing manuscripts, maps, prints, documents, etc. It is commonly used in archives and libraries. It is named after Swedish botanist Daniel Carlsso Solander(1733-1782), who is credited with its construction while working at the British Museum.

The case has a hinged lid connected to its base. The exterior is covered with a heavy paper or book cloth and its interior is lined with archival paper.

While the standard bookcloth is black other colours are available.
